At GLAMRDiP we are all about creating the cleanest formulation possible without compromising on performance. That’s why we formulate to be “18-free” which means we are free of 16 harmful chemicals commonly found in nail polishes including Formaldehyde, Toluene, Formaldehyde resin, Camphor, Xylene, Parabens, phthalates, Rosin,Ethyl Tosylamide, TPHP (Triphenyl Phosphate), Triclosan. Our products are also vegan and cruelty free completing our “18 Free” formula.
Let’s look a little deeper into what 18 free means, and why it is important to us.
Toluene - This chemical is known to be harmful to your nervous system. Inhaling high levels can cause light-headedness and nausea. It is commonly used in nail polish as a thinner and gives application a smooth finish.
Formaldehyde - This is a chemical used to embalm dead animals and humans. It is known to trigger asthma and is a well known carcinogen (causes cancer). It is commonly used in nail polish as a hardener/preservation and prevents the nails from chipping.
Formaldehyde Resin - This is a derivative of formaldehyde, however not quiet as toxic. It is a skin allergen known to cause dermatitis. Commonly used in nail polish top coats as a nail strengthener.
Camphor - This is a poisonous chemical that can cause seizures and disorientation when used in large doses. It acts as a cover on your nails, which deprives them of nutrients and causing yellow staining on your nails.
Xylene- This is a solvent widely used in the cosmetics industry but also in nail polishes. It is harmful by inhalation and skin contact and can cause headaches, nausea, dizziness.
Parabens - Are preservatives used to prevent bacteria growth to enhance and lengthen product shelf life. Studies have linked parabens to breast cancer.
Phthalates- These also act as solvents. They are often used in nail products to prevent cracking nails and to make them less brittle. They are also used to increase flexibility and shine. Phthalates can cause damage to the liver, kidney, lungs and reproductive system.
Rosin- A solid residue obtained after distillation of turpentine from coniferous trees especially pines. You can find it in many cosmetics including nail polish. Rosin is widely criticized for its high allergenic potential.
Ethyl Tosylamide - This is a chemical widely used in nail polish as a plasticizer, reducing brittleness and increasing durability. When drying, it forms a coat to help nail polish color adhere to the nail plate. In Europe, Ethyl Tosylamide is considered to be a sulfonamide, and based on the prohibition of sulfonamides in cosmetics it may not be used in cosmetics and personal care products marketed in Europe.
TPHP (Triphenyl Phosphate)- This is a chemical used in plastics to improve flexibility and as a flame retardant. Studies have suggested that it could be an endocrine disruptor which affects your hormones – in particular, it could potentially affect reproductive health and lipid metabolism.
Triclosan- is an antibacterial ingredient. Research has shown that triclosan can alter hormone regulation, might contribute to the development of
Animal ingredients- We are 100% vegan and do not include animal derivatives.
Cruelty free - we do not animal test. We love our furry friends.
